i always felt that leading worship at a church one doesn't attend is using the platform as a stage for one's talents. i don't think that's what worship should ever be about. a worship leader should be an invested part of their church body. you're absolutely right. worship leaders lead as much, if not more, off the platform as they do on. good post, barge.

I absolutely agree... Both that the relationship is a must and that worship and tech can go hand in hand when the priorities are in the right place.

We've talked about this before, but I'm interested to hear some thoughts on hiring worship leaders vs. raising them up from within... I know that hiring is a really common practice, and I don't disagree, but with relationship as a priority, is it wise to hire leaders (worship or otherwise) without already having that relationship and church membership (for lack of a better term) already in place? Any thoughts?

I agree with your points here. I don't mind that some churches have 4 or 5 different worship leaders because usually those are the churches running 5 or 6 services on weekends. As long as the worship leaders attend the church. That way they are connected with the heartbeat of the congregation. And it does give that church an opportunity to reach a broader audience.
